Open Beta: Selective Data Copy for JSM Sandbox!

Hey Atlassian Community,

Earlier this year, we introduced a new feature that allows you to copy selective projects and spaces into your Jira and Confluence sandboxes.

The functionality to replicate specific projects to your Jira Service Management (JSM) sandboxes is now accessible in an open beta! The Selective Data Copy feature is available to our Premium and Enterprise customers using Jira, Confluence, and JSM

What is a sandbox?

A sandbox provides an isolated environment for testing and experimenting with Atlassian products before implementing changes in production. It mirrors your chosen product’s production environment.

Additionally, sandboxes allow you to test new features, onboard users, and evaluate apps without affecting the production environment.

What problem does Selective Data Copy solve?

In the past, when creating a sandbox, you’d copy all data from your production site to your sandbox. However, it’s often the case that an Admin only needs a subset of their production data in their sandbox.

This is where Selective Data Copy proves valuable. With this feature, Admins have the flexibility to selectively copy specific projects and spaces from their production environment to their sandbox. By only copying over a subset of data, the sandbox configuration process becomes faster allowing you to test new features and workflows sooner!

How can I access this feature?

To copy specific spaces or projects from your production to its sandbox:

  1. Go to admin.atlassian.com. Select your organisation if you have more than one.

  2. Select Products > Sandbox.

  3. Under Actions in the product table, select Copy production data.

  4. Follow the steps to select Specific projects or Specific spaces.

  5. If you want to see attachments in your sandbox, select Include attachments.
Depending on whether you are on centralised user management or original user management, your experience of granting users and groups access to the sandbox will differ. Find out which user management experience you have

  6. Depending on whether your organisation is on original user management, select if you want to Preserve group memberships in your sandbox.

  7. Run the Validation.

  8. Review the data to be copied.

  9. Select Copy data.

Learn more about Sandbox and Selective Data Copy here.

Give it a whirl and let us know what you think! We look forward to hearing from you!

Hi @Eshaa Sood

Any roadmap dates on when this will be supported the other way? (i.e. Pushing Sandbox configurations to Production).

Thanks,

Fabian
