Request - Ability to link Resolved Jira Issues into JPD idea

Wendy Grapentine September 30, 2024

Request to be able to link Resolved Jira Issues into JPD idea would be helpful.
My company has so many irons on the fire that sometimes the team gets an idea done before I have time to link it in JPD.

Hi @Wendy Grapentine , it's not possible to find these issues via search (the resolved ones), however you can copy the link/URL for the issue in Jira, and paste it in the search box in the delivery panel in the idea, and that should work just fine. Let me know if that's not working for you!

Hi @Wendy Grapentine ,

It should still be possible to link a resolved Jira issue to a JPD idea. I just tested through linking, as well as adding the Jira issue as a JPD delivery - and both worked as expected.

What issue(s) are you running into when trying to link them? As well, which link-types are you attempting to link the idea and issue with?

I had not thought of trying it as a Delivery.  I will try that.

Basically, I am creating the JPD idea AFTER the Jira Delivery Ticket was created and marked Done.

(Background:  I am required to send out an updated list of tickets that my team is working on via email every two weeks.  I used to use an Excel Spreadsheet to do this but it was very tedious and time consuming to do. So, when JPD first came out, I decided to utilize it for this purpose as it would save me a bit of time and I could easily manipulate the list of tickets)  To keep this updated quickly, I just link the Jira story to it and when the Bi-weekly email is due I just click on each idea and update the status easy peasy.
Originally, my idea was to just email the link to the JPD or display the JPD inside Confluence and then just email that link.  (However, my boss still wanted the excel table in the email, so I just export it when I am ready into Excel.  Then copy paste the Excel into the  email.)
I know, it is ton of extra work, but, this is how the boss wants it done.

So every two weeks, I get a flurry of new tickets that my team has been working on that I have to add into the JPD and link and if the ticket has already been marked done, I have to link it going from the Jira ticket to the JPD ticket which is a pain.

I will try to see if I can link it via delivery route.

I like using JPD for this because:
1) I can categorize the tickets by platform and project groups
2) I can drag and drop the rows easily (can do that in Excel)
3) Once linked, I can quickly update the status of the tickets.

Ok, I just tried it and JPD will not let me paste the URL to link the ticket

Hi Wendy,

To clarify on deliveries a bit more, and what you've mentioned about your use case - it's not possible to create an idea through a delivery.

Deliveries are specific to JPD, and these are either:

  1. Created through the JPD idea, or
  2. Linked to the JPD idea through the Delivery tab

It is possible to link a JPD idea (that already exists) to a Jira issue, and have it become a delivery by appearing in the Delivery tab of an idea - by using the link-type "Implements"

But we do not see a lot of customers using this method too frequently, nor have the idea created after the fact when the Jira issue is marked Done. Not to say it's not possible, but again - just not something we see much of.

Otherwise, you should be able to link your Jira issues to a JPD idea using other link-types. These would show just as a linked issue does, and not in the Delivery tab of a JPD idea.

You may also want to consider using an automation that creates a JPD idea when the Jira issue is marked Done, and links the two together. Might look something like this:

^ NOTE the Scope of this automation is set to Multiple projects with both my Jira and JPD projects selected.

1) WHEN: Issue Transitioned to DONE

2) AND IF: Project = << Insert Jira project >>

3) THEN: Create a new Idea in JPD project (Remember to select the idea as the issue-type)

4) AND THEN: Link issue: Implements Most recently created issue
