Product Requirements and Approvals in JPD

Hi all,

We are going to start using JPD for the process between when an idea is created to when it is ready to send to development. We initially were going to do this in Jira Software with the workflow below. As you can see, we want to include approvals in the ideation and requirements development processes.

- Any advise on how I can set up something that includes the steps in the workflow below (it does not have to be exactly like that, but we do need to have approvals for ideas and step for writing requirements and approving them before we send them off to the Dev team).

- Is it possible to add approvals in JPD?

- I see that under Delivery in JPD there is a "Specs Ready" column. But this is done prior to sending to development between the Product and Dev team. The Product works on requirements and the Dev team helps with specs. By the time we would convert the idea from JPD to an epic in Jira Software, we already have the requirements and specs.

Any help/insights would be greatly appreciated!

@Jeanette Bonifaz you can create a workflow for a Jira Product Discovery project like you can in Jira Software by going to the left-nav in JPD > Project settings > Workflow. This would allow you to update the status of an idea in-line with your approval process, with the caveat that you would not be able to restrict who is allowed to make this change.

Hi Rohan, thanks for responding to my post. And where would I be able to see where an idea is in that process? For example, how many ideas are awaiting CEO approval, etc.

@Jeanette Bonifaz You can create a list view and group by Status, it will show you how many ideas are in that status.

@Rohan Swami. Thanks, but I would like to have something like a board with all the statuses in different columns so I can see where all ideas are.

Also, can I copy the workflow I have directly into JPD or do I need to start from scratch?

Hi Jeanette, you can definitely do that: just create a new board, and select the "status" field for the board columns.

You cannot copy a workflow directly in JPD though, you'll have to configure it in JPD. To do that: from any view, open the "fields" menu. Find the "status" field, click to configure it --> there's a button to change the workflow.
