Putting the Subtask Completed Bar in a Comment or Text Field

We have successfully migrated to Jira Cloud and now have increased use of Dashboards for management visibility and communicating status on key stories. Most Projects have a Status Comment custom field to display the current status of activities on a Dashboard.

For Stories with subtasks in would be wonderful to have the subtask status bar as available content in the Status Comment as a metric. Management seems to like visuals. Does anyone have an idea whether this is possible?

This may be a bit off-topic, but your use-case for a "Latest Comment" field is something that Automation in Jira Cloud can easily handle. An automation rule can copy each new comment into a custom "Latest Comment" field.

I also notice that there are a variety of "Advanced Custom Fields" related to other "last comment data" (timestamp, days-since, dev-or-not, author of last comment or edit).

Not sure if this might help with other use-cases you have.

As for radiating progress for Subtasks on a Story, we've been experimenting with a slightly different approach. Instead of Subtasks, we sometimes use Checklists within Stories. Some Jira Marketplace Apps provide a checklist progress indicator on the Story card. For example, this (free) app:

https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1220209/issue-checklist-for-jira-free?hosting=cloud&tab=overview

will show progress on the checklist items on the board:

Checklists do NOT have the same functionality as Subtasks. But it is an alternative.

Thanks. The idea is to get the visual from the Parent into a comment. It is just an idea at this point.

Will look at automation to restore the Latest Comment functionality.

What is status comment?  I don't have this field in my instance.   It would be nice to know how you did that.  Thanks.

Agreed. @Rich Wolverton , you wrote:

Can you clarify this? What type of field is this custom field? Was this a field you used before migrating to Jira Cloud?

@S Fong Prior to moving to Jira Cloud we had the Scriptrunner 'Latest Comment' field that would grab the last comment and make it available for display. Since that is not available in Jira Cloud, we now have extra custom text fields for Status Comment, Executive Comment, etc. displayed with Wiki Renderer. It would be nice to dynamically put in metrics on subtasks somehow to give a summary of progress with out having to copy images.
