Do you regularly back up your Jira or Confluence Cloud instances?

I know that once certain items are deleted in Jira Cloud, they are gone for good (ie. Issues). And other items, like Projects, go to the Trash, but are then hard deleted eventually as well.

Have you ever had accidental deletions in your instance?

If so, have you been able to recover lost items *successfully* through a backup and restore process?

I'm curious to know more about whether or not this is a big problem for Admins, and if so, how you're solving it.

If you search the community, I didn't find a definitive answer.  I'm getting the impression that Atlassian is covering major system down issues, but it would be a good idea to export your Jira/Confluence data just in case.

Anyone have any other thoughts on the matter?

Do not backup, but the admin oversees all changes.

Ive thankfully never had to do a restore but I do automated backups of our Production Jira and Confluence instances nightly.

I have restored these to a sandbox in the past.

Not sure if that is helpful but let me know if you have any questions!

What do you use for your backup?

Hey @Bill

I used the instructions here to use Jira Global Automation to create a nightly backup:

Never deleted 'instance' but I keep that site admin access to a minimum to avoid issues.  Offline storage to assist w/clean up and allow easier maintenance of active projects is definitely a good idea.
