what makes an Epic splitable?

Hi - We see that the dropdown for some Epics includes the "Split" option, but not for other Epics.   What would be the distinction between the two?   Why can't we split any and all Epics?

@Carl Sjoquist Without digging a bit deeper into your instance there are 2 highly likely candidates why an Epic could not be split.  

1. The Epic has been previously split
   • Once any work item has been split it cannot be split again.
   • There are visual indicators in places like the Grid which show the word "Split" above the State. 
   • Inside the work item there is also data and visual indicators to indicate the work item is a split.  
   • Screen shots attached. 
2. The Role of the user attempting to perform the Split does not have the appropriate role permissions to perform a split. 
   • Screen shot attached. 

If none of these solve the issue, it might be best to submit a support ticket so that we can dig deeper with you.
