Deleting the file doesn't live-delete it from the chat history in connected clients. However, if you reconnect / rejoin the room, the file should be gone. If not, it's possible that the file wasn't deleted - please double check the steps listed in https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/HIPCHAT/Delete+messages+and+files to make sure the message is no longer there.
