Are all the home directory important in Data Center?

Daniel Alonso October 2, 2018

We just set up our Jira as Data Center deployment with a shared home directory and we have some questions:

  1. Are all the folders inside local home directory important?
  2. Can we delete them if they are not?
  3. What folders in local home consume space in disk?
  4. How many space on disk should we consider for this local home directory?

  1. Yes
  2. No (Best case - they will just be recreated.  Worst case, your installation will fail)
  3. All of them
  4. Depends on how much data you want to store in Confluence

The usual culprits for large disk usage, and places you might want to do some cleaning in are

  • Attachments - you don't want to delete these directly, do it through the UI and get your users to do it so you know what they are deleting
  • Logs - it's better to look at the log-rotate settings, rather than just delete.  Always keep the latest version of each log though
  • Export - you'll want to remove exports after they've fulfilled the purpose for which they were created
  • Import - as Export

Thanks Nic,

Just to clarify:

The instance is Jira software 7.8.

We already copy the folders below to the share drive, so all attachments, export and import are now on the the shared. My question is: Do the same folders on local home are going to be consuming disk space?

  • data
  • plugins
  • logos
  • import
  • export
  • caches
