why has my @ stopped working to tag other users?

when I type @[deleted] then members of my team used to pop up and I was able to tag them in stories / pages.

this no longer works in confluence - but appears to work in JIRA,  this does not make sense!  any tips?

Thank you for contacting us about this. I just have a few questions for clarification on the issue.

1. Do other users experience this issue?
2. Does this occur in multiple web browsers?
3. Do you have autocomplete disabled in your editor preferences? If that is disabled, then it will turn off the mention ability for just your user.
