question about local data residency

Stefan Voogt September 8, 2023

For compliance policy's most of the data that we store on confluence needs to reside in the EU. But in the near future we will get a client from Germany and all the data for that client needs to be stored in Germany. Is it possible in Confluence to store all our data in he EU and the data for the German client in Germany? in one site in Confluence.
If not how can we resolve this?

Hi @Stefan Voogt , and welcome to the community.

Data residency works site-wide. So the easiest solution is to move everything to Germany or use a new Confluence site for working with that client.

Best, Max

Thx for the quick response. Potentially this could raise an issue if we can't host all the data in Germany since we are a small company and we won't be eligible for the enterprise license.

Hi @Stefan Voogt ,

No, Atlassian does NOT offer complete data residency.  Some products offer partial data residency, and the list of data in and out of scope is available here: https://support.atlassian.com/security-and-access-policies/docs/understand-data-residency/

For example  out of scope, i.e. no data residency:

  • Cached content, such as emails and notifications (up to 30 days)

  • Data in transit (up to 30 days)

  • Product, audit, and operational logs

  • Product analytics

  • Team profile information data

  • Third-party product integration data

  • User account information data

  • User analytics

These data do not allow for data residency, even if you choose data residency in Confluence.

If you need to store all data in Confluence and in Germany:  This is not possible.
