I've never had to put a password into confluence to log in, but today it randomly asked for one. Usually, I just click "sign in with my google account" and I'm good to go. Now when i try to sign in with google account, it's asking that I create a password. Should I create a password? I'm afraid it will break something since none of my coworkers have had to do this

Clicking "remember me" on log in helps a lot, but this login requirement happens occasionally for various reasons.  You may have recently either formally logged out of Confluence (instead of just closing the browser) or you have cleared your browser cookies or you are using a different PC so your PC can't "remember" who you are to automatically login ...Sometimes it is to do with the link someone may have sent you.
