Table of Contents Alignment Issues

Megan Ellis February 19, 2020

Hi all - having a strange issue in Server v7.2...

In one space, my table of contents macro stays on the page and is responsive, regardless of browser zoom or sidebar width (see image 1.)

In another space, which is identical (in fact - space that works was copied from this space), the TOC macro falls off the page if the browser is at 100% and you make the sidebar wider. (See image 2.)

On both pages, the column with the TOC macro is set to 300px. I tried with a % of page instead and the problem was the same. Even though you can't see it in Image 1, the picture in the column beside the TOC column is the same (811 px width) in both pages.

The settings on the columns, as well as the Space stylesheet and sidebar configuration are identical. Same browser and browser settings are being used. Any ideas what else could be going on here?

My preference is for both pages to behave the way Image 2 does, where the content is responsive and not cut off the page.

Thank you in advance!Image 2.PNGImage 1.PNG

Hi @Megan Ellis

Are you using sections to separate the TOC from the rest of the content? If so, perhaps some unwanted formatting was added to the section that's affecting the TOC in the space with the issue. Maybe inspect the section using the Source Editor to compare it on pages from each space.

You could also check out my team's app, Scroll Viewport, which adds a table of contents on every page, without the need of using sections and the TOC macro. The Help Center theme—which you can see in action on our help site—is responsive, so it should have the functionality you're looking for.
