Refined Toolkit Macros Not Displaying (i.e. UI Expand, UI Tab)

We have many pages making extensive use of the Refined Toolkit macros, such as UI Expands and UI Tabs.

As recently as 10/09/2023 the page renders all the UI Expand macros in view mode as expected. Starting 10/10/2023 the UI Expand macro is not displayed in view mode; I have to use edit mode to see the content contained in the UI Expand macro.

Examining page elements in view mode confirms this element is present:

<div class="rw_ui_expands_content"></div>

Unfortunately there is no '+' displayed, the page area is blank space and all of the content in the macro is hidden.

Pages with the UI Tabs macro render the tab but fail to render the content in the tab body.

We are experiencing this with current versions of Chrome, Firefox and Edge browsers.

Cloud version: Confluence 1000.0.0-cefbf6537cd0

Hi Matt,

Raj from Refined here.

We faced an issue yesterday that affected the rendering of macros from Refined Toolkit, a fix for this has since been released into production.

In case you're still facing issues with Toolkit macros rendering, please report this to our support team over at help.refined.com so we can investigate further!

Thank you for the update Raj, I confirmed the UI macros are rendering as expected. If we have any issues in the future I'll follow up with the help link you provided.

Regrettably the workaround and final resolution seems to be converting pages from using licensed macros to using layout tools that are built into the default Confluence editor.

This approach will put our carefully curated internal documents into a mix of pages that were important enough to spend dollars correcting alongside pages requiring users with edit privileges to read the content that is otherwise hidden from display.

I can only hope Confluence continues to support markdown by default. Or do I have that wrong too?

Hi @Matt Mikkelsen-Pope

Welcome to the community.

I can't reproduce this on my Confluence Cloud and my company Cloud one.

I also don't see any disruptions on the Atlassian Status page in regards to Confluence content, but there is an issue in relation to Marketplace apps.

As I see your expand option is using the Refined Wiki expand option and not the ootb expand macro form Confluence

So this could mean that you are currently affected by the issue active on Confluence Cloud, see here

Or the license of the app Refined Toolkit has expired on your instance of Confluence

Thanks for the analysis Marc, and confirming we are using the Refined Toolkit of macros.

I tried a basic page with only one UI Expands macro on my company's page and that also does not render the macro; this seems like a licensing issue affecting other macros from the Refined Toolkit and I'll follow up with IT.

Next up, determine if there is a link between correlation and causation.

We determined the license is valid.

After a page commit some of the UI Expand macros appear on the page, but not all.

Is there is a log for further investigation?

Hi @Matt Mikkelsen-Pope

Is there specific detail in the expand that don't work, regarding the ones that do work?

If there's nothing special, just simple text or a table, I would advise, as on cloud you are not able to see logging, to raise an issue at the refined support portal.

Refined Support Portal

If they can't help you, then I would refer to Atlassian Support, they should be able to view logging on your Confluence instance.
