Recover an old version of a Confluence Calendar - Page History not finding the most recent version.

Adelaide April 25, 2018

It seems that while copying our:

there has been a bug and we lost the JF EU Marketing Calendar.

When looking at Page History – it told us the last version of this file is from 2016 (???) while it’s a file we are using every day.

Could you please have a look?

THIS IS A TOOL EVERY TEAM USE, WE NEED TO HAVE IT BACK.

Hi Shannon,

Yes sure, I was in this JF EU Marketing Calendar (this is the one refreshed version I had hopefully kept - but the moment it will re-load I will lost everything):

- I clicked on Copy ("..." Section)

- Made a Copy with changing the name of the Calendar

- Then I clicked on edit and delete the events I didn't need + add the events I wanted on this new calendar

See screenshots below if it's clearer -

HI @Shannon S, did you have any time to look on the below? I would be really glad if we can find a solution today as this is a tool we all use in the company.

Many thanks,

Adélaïde

 Adélaïde,

I did not, as your last response was sent at the end of my day. I'm back in the office now, so I have had time to have a look.

I had asked about how you copied the calendar earlier because there's not a way to copy calendars in Team Calendar. The only way to do so is to export the calendar to .ics file, and then import that .ics file into Team Calendars as a new calendar.

It appears that you had the calendar macro embedded on a page in Confluence, and copied the page instead. The new page was still referencing your JF EU Marketing calendar. Therefore, when you deleted the events from the calendar, you were deleting them the only existing calendar. Copying a page in Confluence does not create a new calendar.

Unfortunately, since you removed the events, these cannot be rolled back since Team Calendar does not have versions the way that Confluence does. It was requested in the past as a feature request but we do not have plans to implement this in the near future:

For future reference, a calendar macro on a Confluence page is just a window to the calendar itself. The calendar actually exists within Team Calendars, and you can get there by clicking on Calendars in your menu bar, or by the link I sent you earlier:

If you wish to copy a calendar going forward, use this workaround:

  1. Ensure that the desired calendars you will be using have been added to your My Calendar view: Create, add, and edit calendars
  2. Export the calendar you wish to copy. Click . . . > Export to iCalendarScreen Shot 2018-04-26 at 11.45.52 AM.png
  3. This will save a .ics file to your computer. Take this file, and next to + Add Calendar, you'll see a down arrow. Click this, and select Import Calendar

Once you do this, you will have a new calendar which is not connected to the old calendar. You can then make the changes you require here.

I hope that's clear, and that you're able to re-add the events that were inadvertently removed from your calendar.

Regards,

Shannon

Adelaide,

Can you let us know the exact steps you took to copy the calendar?

The links you provided we cannot see of course but they also lead to pages in Confluence. When you go to https://confluence.justfab.net/calendar/mycalendar.action are you able to find your calendar there?

Regards,

Shannon
