We are upgrading from 2.10 to 3.5 and we need to know what plugins/macros out users are currently using. We had to turn off logging as it had an advers effect on the service.
Can anyone suggest the best way to do this? If we use google analytics, how would we track plugin/macro usage?

Yes, Macro Usage Stats Plugin would be helpful in this case. If you still wanted to use Google Analytics, you can try out Google Analytics for Confluence by AppFusions.
You might want to take a look at the Macro Usage Stats Plugin.
Hope this helps

If there's a particular macro you're looking for, you can just search for it.
To find all usages of the user profile macro, for example, search for:
macroName: profile*
(note: the spaces in between : and the name of the macro is important!)
