Migrating from server to a single space in cloud

Question

We must migrate a self-hosted Server Confluence site that has multiple spaces over to only one space in our cloud instance.

1. Is this possible/advisable to use the migration tool? Or would the migration overwrite the current site completely?

2. Do you recommend performing a backup on the cloud site before attempting this?

3. Any suggestions on the best approach are appreciated

Why do you need to compress it to a single space?

The best approach in my opinion would be to try to combine all these spaces on your server instance. I'd recommend to:

* Create a new empty space
* Copy (NOT Move in case anything goes wrong) all of your spaces inside this new one
* Make sure that everything has copied correctly, check permissions etc...
* Migrate this new space to the cloud

If anything goes wrong, you should have original copies to try another approach - that's why you should copy them inside new space instead of moving
