Migrating from server to a single space in cloud

Tammy Orozco June 22, 2022

We must migrate a self-hosted Server Confluence site that has multiple spaces over to only one space in our cloud instance.

1. Is this possible/advisable to use the migration tool? Or would the migration overwrite the current site completely?

2. Do you recommend performing a backup on the cloud site before attempting this?

3. Any suggestions on the best approach are appreciated

Why do you need to compress it to a single space?

The best approach in my opinion would be to try to combine all these spaces on your server instance. I'd recommend to:

  1. Create a new empty space
  2. Copy (NOT Move in case anything goes wrong) all of your spaces inside this new one
  3. Make sure that everything has copied correctly, check permissions etc...
  4. Migrate this new space to the cloud

If anything goes wrong, you should have original copies to try another approach - that's why you should copy them inside new space instead of moving

We want to compress to a single space because it is archive user docs that we want to have access on the cloud and shut down the server instance.

That's a really good idea to merge them before moving the whole thing.

Thank you for the suggestion.
