Is there a way to create an anchor within a document, to link to that precise location?

mclodfelter November 12, 2024

I have a large master document.  Within that document, I would like to create various anchors that tie to the important sections of the document.  I also find I have a need to reference a portion of this document elsewhere.  In theory, this external reference could be done through a link (with anchor) in my second document.  Is this possible?

If use of anchors is not the suggested methodology, what would be the accepted approach to accomplish this?

Hi @mclodfelter, welcome to the community.

Yes, it's possible—and I might even say recommended—to link to specific anchors on a page.

Hello @mclodfelter,

I think the best approach is to use headings. Each heading within the body of the page will have an associated URL. This URL can be used both on the same page and in other pages, or shared with users.
