Fix incoming links when replacing a page

matthew schwarz October 14, 2014

I have a page, let's call it Page1. It is old and I temporarily made "TempPage1" with it as the intended replacement. Now that TempPage1 is done I planned to delete Page1 and then rename TempPage1 to Page1. When going to delete Page1 I was thankfully informed of the 59 incoming links to it. So, I obviously want those to go to the TempPage1, especially once I rename it.

Can anyone recommend how at this point I should handle this transition? And for the future, is there a better way to handle a similar kind of evolution?

Thank you.

Copy and paste the content from TempPage1 into Page1. That is the best way. Then you don't have to re-point links.

Plus it gives you page history. If you do it the other way you loose all history.
