End of Support Announcements for view macros (Confluence 5.9)

Hans-Peter Geier November 12, 2015

This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: End of Support Announcements for Confluence

Refering to this annoucement:

With the release of Confluence 5.9 we will be ending support for the following macros, known collectively as the 'View File' macros:

  • Office Excel
  • Office Word
  • Office PowerPoint
  • PDF

What will be the replacement of this much-used warning functionality?  The new image previewer?

Note that in various use cases, the 'view file' macros still do a better job than the new viewer. For example, you can see the documents inline in the page, in readable size, without having to click anything to open it in a viewer.

Also, all existing pages would need to be migrated to get the view-file macro replaced by something else.

I believe this is not a good idea!  Where can we vote against it?
