Dynamically copy table rows from one page to another

Jason Dahl August 20, 2020

I want to be able to copy certain rows from tables on some pages and compile them into one single page. I am using the status macro within tables. I want to be able to grab rows with a particular status and copy them to a different page. Even if I had to set up some kind of label, or a column with different 3 letter acronyms I could filter by to do this.

The main goal is to automatically see if a row is say red, and copy all of it's contents into a different page.

Hi @Jason Dahl

Out of the box you can't do this 100%, but there are plugins that achieve the full results. What you've described is a use-case I have for some top-level projects that we compile board reports from.

How I achieve this:

  • Page Properties Report aggregating the table data (note: your headers have to be consistent between pages). This can give you an aggregated view of all your rows from your pages (and you can order by columns)
  • Then I do filtering using the paid-for Table Filter and Charts for Confluence which I've found to be a great use for managing table data in view mode.

If you don't go for the plugin, then you could consider ordering your table in a way that your status sets the ordering (e.g. by jimmying a number into your status like "1-Red", "2-Amber"...)

Hi @Jason Dahl ,

You were suggested to use the Table Filter and Charts for Confluence app for the case, and I want to guide you through the process.

Step 1. Collect all your your big tables from different pages on the one particular page with the help of the Table Excerpt and Table Excerpt Include macros (we mean "reuse" your tables).

1.pngStep 2. Join your tables with the help of the Table Transformer macro (use the default Merge preset).

2.png

3.pngStep 3. Filter your combined table by the required status.

4.pngIf your hosting is Cloud, you'll need the Table Toolbox macro to nest several macros.

Our app allows you to use different macro combinations, so you'll be able to work with your tables in a neat and flexible way.
