I made a copy of a gliffy in order to use it as a template. When I made changes to the copied version and published them, the same changes were made to the original gliffy. This has not happened to me before, the only thing I did differently is place the copy under the same parent page as the original. Is this intentional and is there anything I can do to make changes to the copy that don't make the same changes to the original?
Hi Russell!
That feature is designed to make your life easier by not requiring that you manually update a bunch of diagrams throughout your instance, but when you're wanting two different diagrams, it admittedly doesn't. ;) Good news, though: I've got an answer and some screenshots for you.
Instead of copying that version of the diagram to another page, can you go to the page where you'd like to create a variation of the diagram and create a new diagram? In the window that pops up, you can use the "use a recent diagram as a template" option in the bottom row of that window.
If the diagram you want to use as a template isn't appearing there, you can also use the "search for a diagram" option in the upper left. Make sure that you leave the "link to original diagram" box unchecked and click "use as template." If you check that box, it'll do the same thing you're experiencing, where any time you make a change to one copy of the diagram, it'll automatically update all the others.
I hope this helps! Please let me know if you're still experiencing the issue and we can do some more thorough troubleshooting. :)
if I make a copy of a diagram and start editing the copy, I would think that the intent 99% of the time is to edit just the copy.
Having edited a copy without unchecking "link to original", is there anyway I can get my original back?
