Can you run a script from a webpage?

This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: How to use JavaScript in Confluence

Can you run a script that exists on a web page?

I.e  http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js 

I have tried wrapping it in <script> tags and using 

type="text/javascript"

Sure. You could use a user macro, the html macro, or put it i the custom html section of Confluence Admin. What are you trying to do?
