Stillllllllllllllllllllllll brokennnnnnnnnnnnnn
I was running into this same problem when I was using the "legacy" editior which is 100% better than the new defualt editor template. Once I went back to the current, template, I was able to copy/paste things.. so I'm wondering if others are using the "legacy" editor/template.
However, I saw a message later and I confirmed that using the legacy editor with Chrome does not work but I can insert images into my document using the "legacy" editor if I use FireFox... so FireFox it is.

The problem occured today, images copied from an external source, 95% broken after saving.
Did everything again, same results, some images stay.

Same issue here. After spending 2 hours of writing my document adding a dozen images, now half of them are broken. Do the developers even care and work on this product?

Images got broken after editing a page on Confluence Cloud.
Will this get fixed someday?

Facing similar issue and when trying to remove the Broken Image it still shows up. Please suggest. Deleting the complete page and redo is really a donkey work.

I had this problem this morning. To solve, I logged out and backed in. Started working after that and saw the image "uploading" for a brief moment after cut and pasting. Before it had not.

Here is what worked for me:
Instead of 'Pasting' the image, save the image as a file, drag and drop the image file on the page, adjust the thumbnail view (i.e. increase pixel width) to look like the real size of the source image.

My whole team runs into this from time to time, it is incredibly annoying. We have seen it through several upgrades of Confluence Server. Not only that, but sometimes it doesn't even happen with new images. We can edit a page that already has images on it, and when done editing it (just editing text, even, not anything near the images), and the images will suddenly break. What on earth gives?!?!?!!!?!!!!!

Same with our instance.
We are using Confluence for specifications documents, which means a lot of images. A lot.
Its very frustrating the users.
Unfortunately if this will blow up, we will have to look for other platforms.

I believe this is a Chromium issue, not sure what they put in the clipboard, but it doesn't work on Office either : https://support.google.com/chrome/thread/17524554/can-t-copy-and-paste-images-from-chrome-in-microsoft-office?hl=en
