Administering Confluence

Diatta Harris August 29, 2024

I am the org admin and I have a Confluence space I am attempting to edit/delete yet when I attempt to delete I get the message I do not have the permissions to remove the space.  What else do I need to be able to remove this space?  The the person who created the space is no longer with the company.

Hi @Diatta Harris , based on some of your previous comments, it seems you do not have the proper permissions for a given Confluence space to properly delete it. Confluence has a feature that lets you recover permissions to a space that you no longer are able to access.

  1. Please first log in as a Confluence Administrator and then navigate to the Global Settings page by using the cog in the top right.
  2. In the left-hand navigation panel, please find Settings > Security.
  3. Select Space Permissions.
  4. There should be a list of spaces here; please find the space you want to delete and click the words "Recover Permissions" on the right-hand side.

This should grant you permission to access that space. I recommend accessing the space, ensuring you have the correct Space Admin permissions, and then trying to delete it again.

Atlassian has some documentation on this feature here: https://support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/docs/manage-global-permissions/#Recover-space-permissions

That DID IT!!!!!  I had to make myself an admin and I removed the previous owner/creator.

Thank you so much.

Hi, @Diatta Harris. Please Go to the space you want to delete and check the space permissions. Verify that you have the "Admin" permission for the space, either as an individual or through a group membership. If not, add yourself or the admin group to the space permissions with Admin rights. Make sure you check the box for Delete Space under the specific space permissions and save the changes. And then Try deleting the space again.
If the deletion still fails, check the Confluence logs for any error messages.

Hi @Diatta Harris

As @Shikha Verma wrote, look up the Space's Permision and ensure that you see this next to your name or to your group.

Then, as an org admin, you must add yourself to a group that has the right to administer that space.

Thank you @Kristian Klima I tried by adding me to the Confluence Admin group still no success.  I am able to delete other spaces just not this one.
