Children Display macro - possible bug with colon ( : ) in the page title

I have a user who is trying to use the Children Display macro in Confluence cloud.

It looks there is a new feature where editing macro options now appear on a right-panel, but that's not the issue.  For Children Display he can't seem to reference the parent page - he gets "Unable to Render" even though he has the correct page name.macro-children-display-1.png

...And a previous page with Children Display still works (looks like prefixed with the space code), but if you edit and save that page, the children display disappears.

Removing the colon ( :) on the parent page's title fixes this.  Now he sees related pages (using Children Display) on child pages

Here's another test page he created in order to show the error:

Is there a bug report on this already? If so I have yet to find it. Thanks

Hey, Greg!

Thank you for the very detailed report (again). As we spoke in our support case, the behavior that you are noticing is caused by the following bug, which has been re-opened:

As shared in the case, the following workarounds might help depending on your scenario:

  • You can keep the Parent page value from the macro configuration without any information, which will work even if the page has a colon. However, this only works if the parent page is the current one that you are adding the macro.
  • If the parent and the retrieved child pages are in the same space that you will be adding the macro, you can use the Page tree macro, which retrieves the child pages of a parent one, just like the Children Display macro.

Thank you again for the opportunity of clarification, friend!

Wish you the best,
Giuliano C.
