Tell Us Which Importers You Want to See in Confluence!

Hi Confluence Community,

I’m Tiffany, a Product Manager at Confluence. We’re exploring new ways to simplify bulk content import into Confluence, aiming to consolidate all your information in one place and keep your team on the same page. We’re currently considering which importers to support and would love your input!

Which platforms would you like to see importers for? For instance, Miro, Notion, etc. Additionally, we’re interested in understanding your importer use cases - why you want an importer, what kind of content you're importing and the volume of content you plan to import.

Your feedback is invaluable to us. Thanks for your help!

Best,
Tiffany

Hi @Tiffany Chung

great news that there is more to come :)

Definitely Miro as we are trying to move Miro boards into Confluence to consolidate further and increase the use of whiteboards.

Right now boards either have to be re-built (which is often not an option) or can only be imported in a static format (which can't be searched like a jpg).

Best

Ruth

Hi Tiffany,
I have a user that has to import a large number of excel spreadsheets into Confluence. Currently they have to do this one by one which is extremely labour intensive/costly. Can you add a feature to enable importing multiple spreadsheets in one go, each one to a different Confluence database named after the spreadsheet filename? They could either list a location where all the spreadsheets (and nothing else ) exist, or could they list them individually, or could they just drag and drop them into an "upload box"?

Hello @Tiffany Chung

Kris from Emplifi here.

My product documentation team went thru 5 doc sets migrations (MadCap Flare, Paligo, Zendesk) in the last 18 months. We ended up manually copy-pasting pages from the respective static HTML pages after encountering quite a lot of issues.

I'll be more than happy to discuss the details and look into options how to help users migrate from other CMS tools to Confluence. It surfaces regularly here and on dedicated tech writers' fora such as Write the Docs on Slack.

Best,

Kris

Being able to import into child pages as server did would be wonderful. For instance, setting up a Word doc with proper headings so when imported, each topic has its own child page created.

Also, we use Refined for Confluence so currently our end users don't have the ability/option to export as they did in server. Also, Export in standard UI/regular UI may not export to Word and PDF properly depending on the macros used on the page. For example, content inside a Refined Tab Container and Refined Tab doesn't export.

What compatibility is there for SharePoint Online?

I think the most common ones are for HTML, Markdown, Word/DOC/Google Docs, and PDF as most other knowledge products can export into this format.

If you are talking about "migrating" between different products to Confluence I would say:

  • Notion
  • Zendesk, Freshdesk, intercom...
  • Guru
  • "Readme" like documentation (Markdown in Github usually)
  • Obsidian
  • MS Loop

And many more but I guess these are some of the most used ones?

EDIT: If we are also talking about whiteboard migrations on our case please add FigJam, otherwise Miro, Mural, Lucid...

+1 for an importer for Miro Boards.

Use case: moving from Miro to Confluence Whiteboards. Should be a no-brainer, right? 😉

We're actively considering migrating from Slab but the lack of import support makes it daunting. An official importer would be excellent.

A few already said it, but definitely Miro - we really want to change to Confluence Whiteboards, but for many users with a lot of content on Miro, they still want to use (not only as static content), this would be a godsend.

I made a sharable video version as well, to help get more people chiming in here.

Sharepont. Not everyone in our org uses Jira and a better interoperability between the two would make our lives much easier.
