Rediscover Confluence Analytics…Freshly Redesigned 📈✨

Hi Confluence Admins! 👋

We believe the best work happens when you blend human intuition with data-driven insights. Thats why we launched Confluence Analytics back in 2019 – a set of features which help teams understand content performance, user activity, and collaboration across their Confluence pages, spaces, and site (available on Confluence Premium and Enterprise Plans).

But we’ve heard that its current UI and controls made it challenging for you to derive actionable insights from your data. That's why we're thrilled to announce a major redesign of Confluence Analytics! 🥳

(FYI we're gradually rolling out, so you may not see it until next week)

Five small but mighty UX improvements for a BIG difference:

1️⃣ Page Analytics features new summary cards

Now you can get an instant snapshot of key metrics, such as total and unique number of views, so you can quickly understand page performance at a glance – no mental maths needed.

image-20241018-184658.png

2️⃣ One-click time period filters

Quickly check data for a specific time period with a single click– helping you save time and effort when analyzing data.

3️⃣ Now, every data table has a search bar

Use the search bar to easily filter and find the analytics for specific users, spaces, and content of interest. From chaos to insight, effortlessly.

4️⃣ Sleeker data tables and charts!

Modernized look and feel for more dynamic, visually pleasing charts and tables as you use Confluence Analytics.

Note on Attachments tab: We temporarily removed it due to low usage and to reduce complexity of the redesign. We plan to reintroduce it later with Embedded Links analytics, which you've told us is more useful 🤝

Analytics in Action: Four Ways to Use It Today

This redesign is just the beginning of making Confluence Analytics more insightful and actionable. While we have ambitious plans for the future, there's already so much you can do today. Here are four ideas to jumpstart incorporating data smarts into your everyday work in Confluence!

1️⃣ Check if key stakeholders have read your page ✅

Use Page analytics to see who has viewed your page and devise strategic sharing tactics to ensure everyone is informed.

check if key stakehodlers (1).png

2️⃣ Stay in-the-know about hot topics among your team and stakeholders 🔥

Use Space analytics to identify the most popular content in any space. This feature helps you stay informed about what is currently important to your team and stakeholders.

3️⃣ Report on your org's Confluence usage 📊

As an IT champion, use Site analytics to get a birds-eye overview of user activity, space activity, and search trends in Confluence.

Export this data for in-depth analysis to make informed administrative decisions.

export as csv (1).png

4️⃣ Use real-world data to optimize your org knowledge

Use Site analytics to track popular employee searches and frequent unsuccessful searches.

Through this you can identify knowledge gaps to fill and opportunities to make your org knowledge more helpful and accessible!

Why would I see users who aren't part of my Confluence instance in some page reports, but not in the site analytics overview screen? And 2 users named Anonymous?

Is there a problem with the data?

I'm also seeing some pretty crazy spikes in page views which are plainly not correct on some dates compared with the data collected using a different app.

Love the new UI for analytics 😍

Regarding the data time range - any chance there are plans on extending the range from year to date (YTD) to all time (since the site was created)?

That's a great update and will definetely help to shed some light on how our content is being consumed, thank you very much for this relaunch!

Still, we're having a use case which I don't really know how to solve it with the current feature set:

We have a customer service with a knowledge base provided as a Confluence space within our site. We, as a company, only have this one site, we did not spin up seperate sites for different use case.

Due to the nature of its task, the customer service space is by far the most used space: most views, most content, most popular searches and so on.

As a site admin, I'd like to have an insight on search activity outside of this customer service universe, let's say I'd like to exclude this specific space from the search activity analytics.

Is there any way to do this?

@Tomislav Tobijas _Koios_ Glad you're enjoying the new look! We've captured the one-year lookback limit and plan to remove it, though we don't have a timeline yet.

@Stefan Draber Thank you for sharing insight into your use case! While we don't have a way to exclude specific spaces from search analytics today, we've captured this need and will assess how it fits into our product development roadmap. Appreciate your feedback! 🙏

@David at David Simpson Apps Thanks David! We'll investigate this now. Could you provide insight into what your tenant you're using?

I'm loving the redesigned UI, it looks really nice and the insight summary cards are an excellent addition. I do have a couple suggestions for further improvements.

  • In the Users tab of Site analytics it would be nice to be able to sort by the Searches column. All of the other columns can be sorted but that one.
  • In the Search tab of Site analytics when you click a specific search a tab opens that shows the most-clicked content and spaces. It would be nice if it also showed which users performed the search. There's already a Users searched column showing the count of users for that search, but if we also knew who searched it would be easier to fine tune our docs to improve the click-through rate.

I also noticed a discrepancy in the data between the Site analytics and Space analytics. In the Spaces tab of Site analytics it shows the # of updates in the space. But in the Users tab of Site analytics the Updated column shows 0 updates for all my users. When I check the Users tab of Space analytics the Updated column shows the correct # of updates for my users, which correctly sums to the total shown in Site analytics.

Thanks @Elsie Wang !

Btw, I can confirm that this seems to be an issue on our site too (what @Connor said):

I also noticed a discrepancy in the data between the Site analytics and Space analytics. In the Spaces tab of Site analytics it shows the # of updates in the space. But in the Users tab of Site analytics the Updated column shows 0 updates for all my users. When I check the Users tab of Space analytics the Updated column shows the correct # of updates for my users, which correctly sums to the total shown in Site analytics.

True.

Even more, this should be declared as a major design principle at Atlassian: whenever a table with content is provided in any management screen, please make it sortable by all columns by default! You can be sure that there's always somebody who can make use of even the weirdest column being sortable.

(Sorry for being off-topic, but I had to say this 🤐)

Thanks, @Connor @Tomislav Tobijas _Koios_, for flagging this data discrepancy between site and space analytics! Could you share your Confluence site name (found in your URL) so we can investigate the issue?

Actually, @Tomislav Tobijas _Koios_ , @Connor , and @David at David Simpson Apps – could you please report the behavior you've noticed to Atlassian Support?

The Atlassian Support issue triage forms helps us capture the details needed to diagnose and resolve the issue. Without more insight into reproducing it, we can’t properly patch it—but we’re eager to fix this as soon as possible! Thanks so much for your help 💙

Quick update regarding the following:

...Users tab of Site analytics the Updated column shows 0 updates for all my users...

I've discussed this with the Support team and I've just been informed that it should now be resolved.
I've also checked our instances and the column seems to work as expected.
