Trying to create a forge app, and getting build error

I have installed forge, and been able to create the jira issue hello world app. But when I attempt to create a compass app

the build fails with error 
Error: resource component at ..\ build not found

Hi @malcolm chambers , were you using an example app? https://developer.atlassian.com/platform/forge/example-apps-compass/

Can you share more information about your setup and when you encountered the error?
