Shell Access Disabled, but Deploy Key Has Read Access

kiusau September 22, 2019

BACKGROUND:  After establishing, successfully, access between my host server (Linux-Centos) and my BitBucket general account, I attempted to perform the same between my local machine (MacOS) and my BitBucket general account.  In this latter regard I the results were mixed.

At first I applied the public key of my newly created RSA to my BitBucket general account, but was denied shell access.  Having failed I removed the key, and added it to my repository to my first and only repository.  The following message was received:

"$ ssh -T git@bitbucket.org authenticated via a deploy key.

You can use git or hg to connect to Bitbucket. Shell access is disabled.

This deploy key has read access to the following repositories:
[username]/[repository name]"

QUESTION:  Why am I allowed access to my repository, but not my general account in the second instance?

HINT:  I ran the following command and discovered the following:

$ ssh -v git@bitbucket.org

...

Authenticated to bitbucket.org ([18.205.93.2]:22).
debug1: channel 0: new [client-session]
debug1: Entering interactive session.
debug1: Sending environment.
debug1: Sending env LANG = en_US.UTF-8
PTY allocation request failed on channel 0

Please advise.
