Can I branch someone else's repo in order to share it?

I have a repo that was originally created by some colleagues. I need to modify the code for a new project. They have shared the repo with my but since I'm not an admin I cannot share it with my team.

Can a make a new branch and then share that branch with my team? Or will I have to copy my local clone into a new repo under my account?

Thanks

Hi Josiah,

Since you are not an admin you can't share it with your team.

But as you said, do a local clone of entire repo and then,

  1. create a branch and share with your team.(See Git branch workflow)
  2. or allow them to clone or fork.
