Hi,

We have a lot different customers and repositories.

Is there a best practice on how to create projects and repositories in Stash?

Is there any plans for creation of projects in a hierarchical way in Stash?

Regards,

Michael Danielsson

Thanks for providing the use-case Michael. A hierarchy certainly helps to organise projects better, but the problem is that it makes other parts of the Application, such as permissions a lot more complicated.

That being said, we are aiming to implement features a number of features in the future that will make navigating to project and repositories much easier. These features include:

  • Quick Search for Projects/Repositories
  • Favourites – to put your most important repositories at your fingertips

In the meantime you might want to ustilise naming conventions to organise your repositories. For example you could use the following project names to setup different projects for the same customer:

Customer 1 / Project 1
Customer 1 / Project 2

Customer 2 / Project 1

The search will later allow you to quickly filter by the name of the project.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Jens

Since we have a lot of customers and a lot of projects for each customer it will not be easy to find the repository you are looking for. If there was some kind of hierarchy it would be easier.

What I'm looking for is something like this.

Company 1
    Customer 1
        Project 1

        Project P

    Customer M

Company N
    Customer 1
        Project 1

        Project P

    Customer M

Hi Michael,

Stash will not feature a hierarchical project structure in the foreseable future. There a number of ways that can help you manage your projects and repositories, but that depends on your specific use-case.

Can you describe your problem in more detail?

Cheers,
Jens

We had a call with the brains behind Stash recently and there was nothing in the roadmap for this then! Maybe you can raise a feature request and get some feedback or votes from others.
