Announcing Bitbucket 7.6 as a Long Term Support release (previously known as: Enterprise release)

G’day, Bitbucket Community!

We know that many of you were excited when we introduced Bitbucket to the Enterprise release family last January with 6.10. Since then, we’ve renamed Enterprise release to Long Term Support (LTS) release and have updated our security bug fix policy so that in addition to backporting critical security bug fixes, we’ll now also backport all other security bug fixes to LTS releases when architecturally possible.

And today, we’re delighted to announce that Bitbucket 7.6 will be the next LTS release (and the first LTS on our 7.x platform) when it becomes available (targeting Fall 2020).

How to decide if a Bitbucket LTS release is right for you

If you can, we encourage you to always upgrade to the latest Feature release so you can take advantage of all the new goodness we’re shipping for Bitbucket. (more background on release types here)

However, if you’re unable to upgrade frequently or the complexity of your instance necessitates that you stay on a version for a year or longer, then the 7.6 LTS release may be a better choice for you. This way, you have the option to stay on a supported version for longer, with the assurance of backported fixes for critical bugs and security issues.

We hope this early announcement helps you plan for your next upgrade.

Cheers,
Lisa

Will LTS be stable platforms? Can we plan upgrade immediately to LTS or wait for few weeks?

@sree LTS releases will absolutely be stable platforms. While all of our releases maintain high levels of quality and stability, we typically don’t add any new features to LTS releases and instead focus on additional testing and quality of features from previous development cycles. Hope this helps!

@Gavad Khan (PS)While plans can change due to unforeseen circumstances, we anticipate 7.6 to follow close to the cadence of other releases, which is usually around every 5 weeks. The latest release was 7.4 which shipped today, so we can estimate that 7.6 will be released sometime in September.
