The Answers search box allows you to enter plain text which is then apparently used to search for an exact string match.
In addition you can search for tags by entering them between square brackets, e.g. [jira].
From https://answers.atlassian.com/answer_link/221/ I learned that you can enter multiple tags which are then ANDed.
A combination of a tag and some words is also possible, but the words are again interpreted as a string instead of separate words.
Is there an advanced search?
I'd like to have e.g. AND, OR, NOT, string match, tags, and grouping functionality.
Maybe also some metadata.
Some examples:
Well, until a feature request is fulfilled, I would use Google to search these queries:
jira OR crowd site:answers.atlassian.com
http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=jira+OR+crowd+site:answers.atlassian.com
jira AND crowd site:answers.atlassian.com
http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=jira+AND+crowd+site:answers.atlassian.com
It would appear that Advanced Search functionality is not available: http://meta.osqa.net/questions/7415/advanced-searches-and-exact-phrases
However, I have been unable to locate the feature request.

I also created a feature request to improve search a few days ago, can be found here: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/ANSWERS-74

I've created a new feature request https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/ANSWERS-87 as https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/ANSWERS-74 only covers improved tag searching.
