To change the URL or site name in Atlassian products like Jira or Confluence, follow these steps:
-
Verify Your Plan: Ensure your site has at least one Jira or Confluence product on a Standard, Premium, or Enterprise plan. Sites with only Jira Free or Confluence Free plans cannot update the URL.
-
Access the Admin Console:
- Navigate to admin.atlassian.com.
- Select your organization if you have more than one.
- Go to Products > Product URLs.
-
Update the URL:
- Find the site you want to change and click Update URL.
- In the dialog box, enter the new subdomain for your site. It must be at least 3 characters long and can include lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens (hyphens cannot be at the beginning or end).
- Click Continue.
- Review the list of products that will use the new URL.
- Click Update to confirm.
Important Considerations:
- Redirection: The previous URL will redirect to the new one, so existing links will still function. However, the old URL won't be available for reuse.
- App Compatibility: Some third-party apps might be affected by the URL change. Check if any apps need reconfiguration or reinstallation after the update.
- Custom Domains: If you want to use a custom domain (e.g., yourcompany.com), this feature is available with Jira Premium, Confluence Premium, or Jira Service Management Standard plans. Setting up a custom domain requires additional steps, including DNS configuration.
Limitations:
- You can update the subdomain up to three times.
- The new URL must be unique and not previously used.
- Only organization admins can perform this change.
