Imagine that Santa uses Jira

Let's go back in time. Preparing for Christmas 2022…

…Santa walked to the window, looked into the distance, and returned to his desk. The desk was littered with letters from children all over the world. Actually, it's not just the desk. The room was covered in paper envelopes with cute drawings and a crookedly signed Santa Claus address. Santa folded the letters and opened his laptop. Damn digital 21st century! These little brats had learned how to use smartphones, and now email, WhatsApp, and other social media were full of messages.

Santa smiled wryly and opened TikTok. He laughed at the memes and sent a few to his friend St. Nicholas. He lived in Ukraine and had finished his gift-giving shift on December 6, so he could finally rest. Then he went to Linkedin. He laughed at being offered a job at Amazon and left a poker face emoji under a post that said that artificial intelligence would soon replace everyone.

Santa had to work, but the massive amount of work and the elves who were more in the way than doing their job just tired him out, and he procrastinated as much as he could.

In his feed, he suddenly came across a post from Atlassian:

- Hmm, Jira! I've heard that somewhere, but what if...

Saying this to himself, Santa flew out of his office like a bullet...

Our days. Christmas 2023

After pouring himself a glass of whiskey, oops, I mean hot milk, Santa leaned back in his chair, put his feet on the table, and exhaled. The office was surprisingly clean. No letters, no envelopes. Even the laptop on his desk didn't blink because of the messages coming in. A post appeared on Santa's LinkedIn under skills - Jira.

This was the reason for the Old Wizard's peace of mind.

All emails are tasks in Jira. Each task has an Assignee - a certain elf. He even added Reindeer to the list. Everything is now clear and concise. The elves no longer walk around idly but dutifully do their job. Santa doesn't tear his eyes out over crookedly written letters - now it's the responsibility of one of his assistants to enter all requests into Jira.

You no longer need to watch around the clock yearly to see if your children are behaving well. Parents write a support ticket and let Santa know where their children have been misbehaving.

And where was that Jira before? Santa asked himself this question all year long. However, he still needed to solve one more thing - how to keep track of his company's performance. Planning is done in sprints: 1 year = 1 sprint. If only we could have such a general report!

He didn't go to the Atlassian Сommunity to ask - for some reason, he was embarrassed. So, he decided to search for an app on the Atlassian Marketplace.

A search for Sprint Performance Report brought up the Time in Status for Jira app from SaaSJet.

It seems to be just what he needed!

Sprint Report for Santa Claus

After installing the app, Santa opened a sprint report on his board. Hmm, well, that's alright.

Now, I can analyze my work.

Well, Jira has paid off! Past sprints have meant fewer completed tasks, and this year's Santa's Christmas Squad broke all records.

Yes, Carryover is not at zero. But that's normal - creating Christmas mood and toys is year-round, so the tasks move from sprint to sprint.

The elves, of course, worked hard to bring everything from last year into Jira, but workflow analytics for further optimization and productivity is above all.

And what about Workload? Jingeleberry is underperforming and has probably dumped some of its work on Twinkletos again. We have to deal with this idler.

Yes, the reindeer still need to deliver all the gifts, so they have yet to close the task. But Rudolph is always ahead of the game. Well done, Rudolph.

❄️❄️❄️

Santa wrote to SaaSJet support to thank them for the Time in Status app and booked a demo. He still needs to figure out the rest of the reports, so it would be nice to get some help.
