Trying to trim my Kanban board. My team has some Epics that are just an Epic - no stories or tasks connected to it. These should be shown in the Kanban board.
And then there's some Epics that has tasks connected to it. In this case, I would like to only show the tasks in the kanban board. Is this possible by some kind of issue filter magic?

@Kristoffer Höeg both of your requests just happen to go against the norm.

Why do you want to show the Epics on the board if they don't have child issues to work on? The board should be for active work whether you are using Kanban or Scrum(Sprints).

The answer to the first part of your request is that Epics w/o issues don't show up in the board even if you have the radio button selected to do so.

The second half is easier to fix. If you go into board settings, columns you'll find the two options. See the screenshot:Kanban board EPic display.png

That said, you could possibly work out a filter to do what you want although I suspect it would be pretty complicated since you are trying to make it be dynamic.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
Well, first off. The idea behind this is that we use the kanban board for our dailies. We have a look at the active and ongoing tasks. If one Epic has two tasks, the tasks are typically assigned to two different persons working with them. The Epic itself isn't being worked on, so it just clutters the view in our opinion.

My Column section does not have the option to choose Display as cards on the board. There is no "Epic Issues" section at all.
The filter that the board uses does not take issuetype into consideration. It fetches everything from the project where our team is assigned.

@Kristoffer Höeg I just realized I forgot to ask you what cloud subscription you have and what type of project are you using?

Don't know about the subscription, but it looks like my company is running a custom Lean Workflow Scheme. It's a development project.

@Kristoffer Höeg look for these two pieces of information:

It's a software project.
The second part is information I can't find. My JIRA view looks really old compared to what I'm seeing now.

Leaning towards solving the main "issue" by converting my epics without tasks to tasks, and making sure Epics having tasks, and then solving this with the usual filter options.

@Kristoffer Höeg That's OK. Please close this out by hitting the Accept answer button.

I'm beginning to suspect you might also be using Data Center vs. Cloud. See this article here:

How do I determine what type/version of Jira I am using?

If you run into trouble with the search function, create a new question/request and use tags to get quicker and possibly better help with your issue. People tend to specialize their monitoring of the community forum. Good luck.

Hi @Kristoffer Höeg

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

First, check your board filter, it's should include issue type Epic, Task.

Secondly, configured the board column, for example if you have workflow status for Epic, Task like Open, In Progress, In Review, Done then map the statuses to board column accordingly.

Third, select the option Display as cards on the board under Epic Issues in Board configuration.

Configuring above will show the Epic. If any Epic has Task then it will show the Task as well.
