5 min
Intermediate

By the end of this lesson, you'll be able to:

  • Manage who can view and administer your boards
  • Change a company-managed board's name
  • Edit the location of a company-managed board

What's a board admin?

A board admin can configure a board, including the work items that appear on it and its appearance. By default, the person who creates a board is included as a board admin.
In company-managed projects, board admins can grant that role to other users.
To add a board admin in a company-managed project:
  1. From your board, select More actions (represented by •••), then Board settings.
  2. In the Administrators field, enter the names of the desired users or groups.
  3. Press the Enter key to add the users and groups.
In team-managed projects, all project admins can configure the board. There isn’t a separate board admin role. If you want to enable a user to configure the board, you have to grant them the Administrators role for the project. This enables them to configure your other project settings, like features and project access.

Jira admins can administer all boards in their Jira site, even if they aren’t listed as board admins.

Configure other settings for company-managed boards

Because company-managed projects can have multiple boards, you can change a board’s name to differentiate your boards. Your board’s name should describe the group of work items it contains.
To edit the board name in a company-managed project:
  1. From your board, select More actions (represented by •••), then Board settings.
  2. In the Board name field, type in your new board name and press Enter.
You can also move company-managed boards to other company-managed projects. The project a board is visible in is the board’s location.
The location doesn't affect the work items displayed on the board.
👉 For example: You can create a board to show certain work items from Project A and locate the board in Project B.
To change your board’s location in a company-managed project:
  1. From your board, select More actions (represented by •••), then Board settings.
  2. Under Settings, select General.
  3. In the Location field, select a project.

In board settings, your changes apply immediately. You don’t need to save or confirm them once selected.
