What's changed on Atlassian Forums?

Explore some of the expected experience changes within the new Forums platform

💡We moved houses, not renovated.

On Sep 22, 2026 Atlassian Forums moved from Khoros to a new platform called Higher Logic Vanilla. Your posts, answers, groups, and reputation came with you. But this was a platform migration, not a feature-for-feature upgrade – a few things you were used to looked or worked differently, and a couple needed a one-time setup from you. This guide named all of it plainly, so nothing caught you off guard on day one.

🏁 Start Here

1. What actually happened?

Atlassian Forums moved to a new platform. The forums on Atlassian Community | Learn, connect, and grow runs on a third-party platform. Our contract with our previous vendor ended this year, so we moved the whole forum to a new platform, Higher Logic Vanilla. Same community, same web address, same content – different foundation underneath.

2. Why does it look and feel a little different?

Think of it as moving into a new house, not remodeling your old one. Everything you owned came with you, but the rooms are laid out differently. We chose to launch on the new platform's built-in capabilities rather than rebuild every single thing exactly as it was. That got you a more modern, better-supported forum faster – with a few trade-offs we were upfront about below.

3. Did I lose my posts, answers, or reputation?

No. Your discussions, answers, groups, badges, and Kudos points all moved with you. More than 99.5% of topics and replies migrated and were validated.

Your account and sign-in stayed the same
Your Kudos points, badges, and leaderboard standing were preserved, including past milestones
Your group memberships carried over
That said, there are some changes to how we calculate rank and to your previous series badges. More on that here!

4. Do I need to do anything?

Two quick things. You need to reset your notification preferences, and you might need to re-add your profile bio. Both only take a minute. See Section IV – What You'll Need to Do for the exact steps.

“Same community, same content, same address. A new platform underneath – and we'd rather tell you what's different than let you find out.”

🦄 What Changed (And Why)

1. Accepted answers `CHANGED`

The accepted answers are now just one click away, not pinned to the top. Previously the accepted answer sat at the top of the replies. It now lives in its own Accepted Answers tab on the question. The answer is still there and still marked – you should automatically see the accepted answers first.

Why: Custom-sorting the answer list would have blocked us from ever getting future improvements to that list from the platform. The tab keeps the answer easy to find without locking us out of upgrades.

2. Profile hover cards `CHANGED`

Hovering over a name shows basic info; the full picture is on the profile page. The little card that pops up when you hovered over someone's name showed their basic profile only – no badges, certifications, or gamification stats inline. All of that still exists; it's one click away on the person's full profile.

Why: The old hover card pulled from seven-plus different systems. Rebuilding that everywhere carried a high risk of breaking things across the site for a feature that's a click away regardless.

3. Tagging and tagged content `CHANGED`

The "all tags" page and tag cloud went away; tag filtering inside posts has stayed. You can still filter by tags within post pages. What went away was the dedicated browse-all-tags page and the tag cloud widget. Posts are no longer automatically tagged upon creation (we are working on this) but you have the control to choose up to 5 tags based on your post. Huge bonus; you can follow tags now!

Why: The tag page was used mostly by moderators. For most members, there were other ways to find and filter by tag, and we optimized for cleaner content and tag filtering that actually works.

4. The homepage feed & filters `CHANGED`

Feed items became simpler, and some niche filters went away. Posts in the feed show a cleaner layout with less inline detail (full author rank, tags, and app icons aren’t shown inline – click into a post to see everything). Basic filtering and sorting has stayed; saving custom filter views did not.

Why: Customizing the feed would have blocked future platform improvements to it. We’re working with our new platform vendor to make the feed more useful.

5. A couple of behind-the-scenes helpers `REMOVED`

Two convenience features in the question flow went away. The inline display of your product entitlements (license type, cloud/DC, support tier) while asking/answering a question went away, and the non-contextual "suggested content" widget was removed.

Why: The entitlements display depended on context from multiple systems, adding complexity to the question flow and increasing maintenance risk. Removing it simplified posting and avoided carrying that complexity into the new experience. The suggested-content widget showed the same items no matter what you were reading, so removing it gave us room to make the experience more useful in the future.

6. Events groups `CHANGED`

City-based groups aligned to ACE chapters have moved to a regional model. The individual city-based Atlassian Community Events (ACE) groups on the forums were consolidated into regional groups, such as United States, Canada, EMEA, Latin America, Asia Pacific, and Global. For local event details, RSVPs, and chapter listings, join on https://ace.atlassian.com.

Why: Regional groups enable greater engagement and collaboration across chapters, creating more opportunities for groups to work together - especially as more events become online or hybrid. Chapters without city-based groups can now connect through regional groups, bringing more communities together.

7. Older threads have been auto-locked `CHANGED`

Some older posts were closed to new comments - but they haven't disappeared. As part of the migration, Q&A posts with no activity for six months or more, as well as discussions and articles with no activity for one year or more, have been locked. You can still read and search these threads; you just cannot add a new reply.

If you would like to request a post be reopened, use the "Report post" option and choose “Report to Community Managers.”

Why: Closing older threads keeps conversations focused on current information, reduces search clutter, and reduces the chance that members will add new replies to posts that are no longer relevant.

8. Search Members and Places `NEW!`

You can now search for Members and Places, not just Posts. Use the main search to find a community member by name and view their profile and forum activity, or search for places such as groups and categories to find the communities where conversations happen. Search results can be narrowed by content type, so you can switch between Members, Places, and Posts to get to the right result faster.

Why: We moved to Higher Logic because it offers some really powerful community features out of the box, including the ability to search for Members and Places. That meant we could deliver a more modern experience faster, without rebuilding every capability ourselves, while continuing to benefit from ongoing platform improvements.

🧐 What You'll Need to Do

1. Re-set your notification preferences `ACTION REQUIRED`

Your notification settings will not carry over, you'll set them fresh after launch. The new platform can't import your old preferences, so everyone starts on the default settings. If you had specific choices about what you get emailed or notified about, take a minute after go-live to set them the way you want.

Head to your notification settings once the new forum is live.
Review email and in-app notification options and adjust to taste.

2. Check your profile bio `ACTION REQUIRED`

Some profile bio details may not display on the new forum; check and re-add anything missing. Certain profile information from the old system (such as company, current position, location and bio) may not show up on the new one. After launch, take a quick look at your profile and re-add anything you want visible. Go to your profile from your avatar in the main navigation and select the ‘Edit profile’ button to investigate.

ℹ️ Help & Feedback

1. Something looks broken or wrong

Tell us! The first weeks after launch are our hyper-care window. We'll be watching closely and fixing issues quickly right after go-live. If something isn't working the way you expect, report it through the usual community and support channels such as our bug report thread here.

2. I miss a feature that changed

We hear you, and we're listening for what to prioritize next. The changes above were deliberate trade-offs to launch on a stronger, better-supported platform. We're starting focused, measuring how the new forum performs, and using your feedback to decide what to build or bring back over time. Head over to our new Ideation space to comment and vote on features you’re missing.
