Hi Community friends!
Along with the move to our new forums platform, we’re also refreshing how we recognise and celebrate the contributions that make our community thrive.
Whether you answer a tricky Jira question, share a Confluence best practice, or read about new Rovo functionality, we want your community reputation to reflect the impact you make.
Here’s what’s changing for forum ranks, milestone badges, and the Kudos programme.
Refreshing forum ranks
We’ve taken the opportunity that comes with moving to a new platform to refresh our rank system. We’ve expanded our forum ranks, which will follow a clearer progression path and recognise both consistent participation and helpful contributions.
The new ranks are:
- Visitor: Welcome to the forums!
- Earned by joining the community.
- Newcomer: Taking your first step by posting
- Earned by being a member for at least 1 day and making 1 post.
- Member: An active participant in discussions
- Earned by being a member for at least 3 days and making 3 posts.
- Contributor: Consistently sharing helpful input
- Earned by being a member for at least 5 days, making 5 posts, and receiving 5 points (from likes/upvotes).
- Insider: A regular community contributor, with exclusive access to our new Insiders group (coming soon)
- Earned with 10 posts, and 50 points (approx. 50 likes/upvotes or 5 accepted solutions)
- Specialist: A trusted source of practical knowledge
- Earned with 30 posts, and 100 points (approx. 100 likes/upvotes or 10 accepted solutions).
- Rising Star: A legacy community pillar on the path to Championhood
- Earned with 75 posts, and 250 points (approx. 250 likes/upvotes or 25 accepted solutions)
- Expert: A seasoned problem solver, expert contributor, and Star!
- Earned with 150 posts, and 500 points (approx. 500 likes/upvotes or 50 accepted solutions)
NOTE: When you log in to the new platform for the first time, your rank will calculate automatically using your accumulated forum activity.
Preserving your legacy milestone badges
Over the years, community members have earned over 1 million milestone badges. Since the new platform handles milestone data differently, we’re retiring the former milestone series and moving future milestones into the Kudos programme.
Here’s how we’ll honour the achievements you’ve already earned:
- Your highest milestone in each series will be retained. For example, your highest Likes Received, Accepted Solutions or similar milestones will become a Legacy milestone badge in the Kudos programme.
- Legacy badges include a Kudos points boost. Each retained milestone will receive a one-time points boost to recognise your past contributions.
- Badges will arrive after migration. We’ll award legacy badges and points in batches during the first month after launch. There’s are thousands of badges for us to award, so please bear with us as we get through them!
- Milestones will transition into new Kudos challenges. Future achievements will be incorporated into our new Kudos tracks (more on this below!) with clearer tiers, fresh artwork, and ongoing points rewards.
Re-organising Kudos challenges
We’ll be organising Kudos challenges into value-driven tracks, making it easier to find activities that match how you want to participate in the community.
- App Expert: build Atlassian app knowledge, complete learning, and provide accepted answers
- Community Guide: welcome new members and help people find the answers they need
- Networking Genius: join groups, take part in discussions, and connect across the ecosystem
- Master Motivator: attend or host Community Events, give Kudos, and celebrate others
- Thought Leader: publish original articles, start valuable discussions, and share your expertise
- Culture Keeper: take part in community rituals and social conversations
- AI Expert: explore Rovo, join AI-focused conversations, and share what you learn
These new tracks will be gradually introduced over the next few weeks!
Refreshing the Kudos tray
The new Kudos tray makes it simpler to discover challenges and celebrate your progress. You’ll be able to:
- Filter challenges by track
- See your progress towards the next Kudos level
- Browse recent badge achievements from the refreshed Kudos Tray
Q&A
Will I lose my Kudos points or Kudos level?
No, your Kudos points and overall Kudos level will carry over to the new platform!
Why does my forum rank look different?
The new rank structure can’t map one-to-one from the former platform. So, our new ranking system uses a clearer balance of participation, and helpfulness signals such as likes and accepted solutions. Your rank will calculate automatically when you first log in. You might have a slightly different rank than you’re used to, but please be assured this will be a better experience overall!
Where can I see my badges?
Your Kudos badges, as well as your legacy milestone badges, will continue appear in your Community Profile in the Badges section. To find your Community Profile, just click your forums avatar and then ‘Profile’!
How do I give Kudos to someone?
You can give peer Kudos from the Kudos tray, in the Recognition section. Please note that for now, you will still see duplicate usernames. This is something we are working one updating Forums-wide.
You can also give peer Kudos directly on a member’s profile! Click on a user's avatar to get to their profile, and scroll down to the Kudos section. Then click the button highlighted below to give them recognition.
Having issues finding someone? We recommend using the brand new platform Search, which lets you find other members for the first time.
When will I receive my Legacy Milestone Badges?
We’ll award legacy badges and their associated Kudos points in batches during the first month following migration. If you haven’t received your Legacy badges after the end of October, please leave a comment below and we can investigate for you!
Any other questions?
Please feel free to ask any rank or kudos related migration questions below, or you can email us at communitymanagers[at]atlassian.com! We’re super excited for this new phase of the forums, and hope to see you all around soon 💙
