Hi @Mary Mascari I feel like you are making this harder on yourself than it needs to be. Curiously, your mention of SharePoint being available suggests why this might be the case. There isn't an easy way to do anything in SharePoint. If it was me doing it, I can see a couple of ways of going about it to give the stated aim…

Hi @Adit Thapa , As far as I know, you will have to use the user picker at least for the actual approval part of the effort. Jira wouldn't be able to definitively ensure the user had the permissions, etc to be able to not just do the approval but even to log in to do it. The other part of it is that if you allow a simple…

Hi @Norah Nneoma If you go to the project's Details page, you can change the project type there. There are some implications to doing that and some of them are documented here. I have done it successfully a few times, mostly changing a JSW project to JSM. There is some weirdness you need to fix such as workflows, making…

It does seem like that. Perhaps it is finding an incorrect JAVA_HOME somehow to one already there?
-
All done and fed back. Very well done with only minor suggestions placed.

Hi @Doug kapell I think what may be breaking you is JDK 11. If you look at the supported platforms page for your version, it specifically says Oracle Java 1.8. Open JDK 8 and especially 11 comes MUCH later in Jira versions. Likely reverting to explicitly that will get you going.
-
That is good advice, @Mary Mascari Over time I managed to develop a workflow that was suitable for a huge range of JSM projects ranging from the usual IT support but to workplace, HR, Payroll, Legal, and AP, to name a few. Don't overthink it.
-
Hi @Henry , The questions you ask are a bit bigger than a breadbox. Microsoft Planner isn't really in the same league as Jira. What I might suggest, since you have a couple of days, is to see if any of the Atlassian University courses might get you going. There are quite a few free ones that, at least, give you some scope…

Hi @Theresa Reynolds Yes... you can certainly do that. There is a version for Data Center. It is a great addition to the environment and eminently flexible. I have used it for the usual tech requests but also for HR, Legal requests, AP, and workplace support. Best, Mike

Hi @Zineb El Alaoui What you are looking for can be done in ProForma or Jira Forms, depending on whether your instance has reached the migration from ProForma to Forms or not. With this approach, you can setup dynamic forms with various question fields added as radio buttons or dropdowns as you like. The nice thing is that…

Hi @Benoit Demarets I can understand the desire for cleanliness but do know that it won't hurt to have that field still populated. However, if you would like to clean that up: * Do a JQL search something like "issuetype = TASK AND "Epic Name" is NOT EMPTY" * Do a bulk change and set the new Epic Name to be empty Mike

Start thinking now, @Jerry Lafferty how you could expand this to other parts of your organization. I now have: * IT (duh) * Workplace * Legal requests * People Operations (HR) * Payroll * Accounts Payable * Procurement requests * Product bug/defect submissions * Merch and logistics (coming soon) It took time to get here by…
-
Hi, @Jerry Lafferty , My advice is not particularly technical. Yes, JSM is very capable and you can make it do many things but you need to cause people to want to use it. Take the time to make your portal and request types look inviting. Find custom icons to help convey your meaning (I recommend icons8; free but…

JMWE is a Swiss Army Knife tool that I refuse to try to administer an environment without. Saves all the mucking about with APIs that will change and you have to maintain connections to.
-
That is the approach I tend to take @Amir Katz (Outseer) I also use JMWE to keep comments in both places consistent and have a subset of the statuses in the linked JSW project keep the JSM ticket to a customer meaningful set of statuses in sync with the production ticket.

Thank you, @Dave Rosenlund _Trundl_ . I prefer unique as, perhaps, the best non-vitpuerative appellations. I am glad you enjoyed the articles and I suspect I have more rattling around the bottom of the box somewhere. Thank you, @Bridget . I really enjoyed doing that.
-
Thanks for your thoughts, @Taranjeet Singh . I do hope that others will get some benefit. It was a heavy lift and that a) there will be bleak periods but b) they will get there and there is a great community that will help along the way.

SO... I attempted to make the change this morning... I have to do some digging but with my work account being under my Atlassian ID AND managed by the org, it won't let me change my ID to my personal email address. I need to do some digging to see how I can split it in my own org now.
-
Thanks, @Peter DeWitt . I will try that. I will make sure to make a back door site owner at work with personal account first so I don't find myself locked out of there and take a shot at this. I will let you know how it goes. For as long as it's relevant, I don't want to bork my work account access

Hi. My name is Mike and I am an Atlassian Administrator. I have been using JSD for many years and just moved over to JSM when I finished migrating our instances to Cloud. I have 8 service desks now covering IT, Workplace, Legal, Bug reporting, Procurement, Accounts Payable, and Payroll. I have a request for Merch pending.…

Actually, @patricio , my approach would be to remove about 20 of those trusted users. As the system gets larger and more complex, you will find it spiraling out of control with that many admin level humans. Speaking from experience here. I WAS in that boat where it was ordered to have that many but I finally kicked them…
-
Hi @Athas Mark You nailed it with "schemes are just a starting point". They are indeed that. Having been around this block a few times, I do wish Atlassian had a better config for new projects that I could pick all the items I need in new picture without having to resort to plugins. Basically, the base scheme would be for…

OR having two "Canceled" statuses with one spelt "Cancelled" Apparently both are correct but... sigh My backlog cleanup list from the dark days of when a C level proclaimed Jira is easy so give all managers and above admin is.... long. I only put up with that for a few weeks before I kicked 'em all back out and the…
-
Hi @Jackie Scanlon There isn't an easy answer for your ask. There may be some plugins that do that but the way we ended up going was basically kicking all the excess admins out and having just an actual team that is responsible for that that coordinates all the things. Conversely, you might make another Jira project to…

Turns out it's not possible to do what I wanted nor is it possible to restrict some request types to certain groups. There is a 2 year old feature request on long backlog that I, of course, voted for but when hosted gives this and people use it (albeit with extensions as I did)... one wished it were maybe a bit shorter…

Ok... A lot depends on context but on my wrist, the 3 most occurring in my collection are: Perhaps a little "less" known in USA and part of why those are my usual choice to use my allowance foolishly on. Unlike others here, I TRIED going back to apple and iOS and... it's awful (for me) so... And for my keyboards, all Kailh…

I will do that. I have seen it in captivity where under "Type" (not the default "Request Type") the portal request types are listed first and then the unadorned issue types after that. If one creates the ticket using the first listed "Type", it creates it correctly with Issue type and request type. If I use issue type, it…
-
That is exactly it, @Joseph Chung Yin . 3 of those are internal (limited) use request types that I would just as soon NOT be on the portal. Not TOTAL restriction but somewhat out of view of the masses if they were available only on the Create button. I seem to be able to get it for myself but want the broader populace to…

It is true that the UI on hosted Jira hasn't changed much for many years. If one looks at Jira Cloud, it comes closer to the "large friendly buttons and soothing colors" of some of the non-threatening applications. HOWEVER, having just migrated from hosted to Cloud, while I am exceedingly happy with Cloud function, some of…

I am not sure these are all that unique but this is how JSM is used at my company: * It's become the place you to to ask for anything of the company. There are portals not only for technical functions but also Legal task submissions, Human Resources/benefits, Purchasing, Workplace needs, Payroll requests, and Accounts…
