Problem with resolution field

Hi,

I inherited a Jira instance (Cloud) that had dozens of workflows, statuses, and screens. I am trying to create 3 options for teams to use. I created a workflow and eliminated the stale options. However, I am having trouble with the Resolution field. I want to be able to Close as "Won't do", but now it is defaulting to "Done" which is misleading and breaks some queries that I have created. I have tried to troubleshoot this, today, but I am not having any success. Could someone help with this issue?

On the project's workflow, could you have a check and see if there is a post-function for the Close transition being set?

eg. The Resolution of the issue will be set to Won't Do

Hi Ahmad,

When I move something to Done, the resolution is set to Done.

When I move something to Closed, the resolution is set to Done.

I want to be able to move things to Done/Closed with the following Resolution options.

Done
Won't do
Cannot Reproduce

Also, when joining my new company, the instance had 56 different Workflows, over 120 statuses, and 80 screen schemes. I am trying to dwindle these down to 2-3 each for projects. Do you have any recommendation of how to do this quickly? It has been painstakingly hard to do.

The relation between Status and resolution isn't dependant to each other as both action are being specified in the workflow setting for that particular transtion. You'll need to identify which workflow the project is using. There's a similar topic being discussed over here: how to set the resolution based on the status? and a documentation to set the resolution Resolutions are not set:

Set a Fixed Resolution

Browse to a project's Admin Panel.
1. Note the Workflow Scheme.
Browse to Workflow Schemes from the Admin panel.
1. Note the corresponding Workflow.
Select the workflow.
If appropriate, create a draft.
Find the transition that should set the Resolution.
Navigate to the Post Functions tab and click Add post Function
Add the Update Issue Field event as a post-function.
Set the Issue Field to Resolution and specify its Field Value.

Could you elaborate more on this as I understand you would like to reduce the number of Workflow to 2-3 for all the projects. is that correct? If so, how many project are there on your JIRA instance, are they connected to a workflow scheme for each project? If they have similar workflow setup, It would not be difficult to associate all of them into smaller number of Workflow Scheme.
