Jira 'new issue view' -> epic name field?

Ruben Samaey_wsoor9

Hello,

looking at the 'new issue view' that does away with the difference between view and edit.

In the 'old' style view there is a view screen and an edit screen.

Typically the epic name is only visible and editable on epic creation and on epic edit screens.

However in the 'new issue view' I do not find the 'epic name' field. (Even when using "show more" link this field does not appear).

Is it possible to edit the epic name in the 'new issue view'?

Thx.

br,

Ruben

Hey Ruben,

I am giving this a shot, even though there are several things unclear to me in your question, mainly because i only know the current version of JIRA and no older ones.

But yeah, if you want to edit the name of an existing epic (or any other issue type) - simply click on the name on the edit screen, type, and confirm with enter when youre done.

Hello Michael,

thanks for your feed-back. I will clarify my question.

An Epic is the only ticket type that has both an "epic name" field and a "summary" field (this is the case in all versions of Jira that I know of).

Some history: "Epic name" is a custom field that was introduced by the Greenhopper plugin (together with some other custom field linked to epics). Greenhopper was later incorporated as Jira Agile.

The "summary" field is a standard field that is shared by all ticket types (including Epics).

What can be edited in the 'New Issue View' by clicking, appears to be the "summary" field.

In the "old/standard" way of working you can edit the "epic name" by opening the edit screen (by clicking the edit button). For an epic the "epic name" field is default listed on the edit screen. You could also make the "epic name" editable on the view screen by adding the "epic name" field it to the view screen.

The 'New Issue View' no longer make the destinction between edit and view. And through this 'new issue view', I have not found a way yet to edit the "Epic Name" field. Even clicking the "show more" link does not show the "Epic Name" field.

Note: The "Epic Name" is what is show in the other tickets that are part of the epic. My standard way of working (to make things simple) is to make sure that for an epic "summary" = "epic name". But if I can only edit the "summary" field then this becomes difficult.

Hello again Ruben,

I can click on Epic Name as well as Summary and change both just fine. See the screenshot below for proof.

Maybe we have different versions? Im running version 7.9.2.

Hi Michael,

the screenshot you show is the "old/standard" way (where the epic name field is part of the view screen).

Currently I'm working on the cloud version. It's possible that the 'new issue view' is only available on the cloud version as it's part of Jira Labs.

(Sorry but I seem unable to add a screenshot.)

I have exactly the same problem as you Ruben. Have you found the solution yet?

I'm also having this problem, don't see a way to edit Epic Name in the new issue view.

I'm also having this problem. It's highly annoying to have to click the 'See the old view' link every time I want to see or edit an Epic. Simply put, Epic should be a default field.

vicky_1qi1zu

I found a way to do this! In Backlog view, click on the Epics link in between the left navigation and the backlog itself (the vertical text, right below Versions). Find your Epic, click on the little box with a down arrow to the right of the Epic name, and you'll see a menu option for Edit Name.

Nice find. Unfortunately, this only works if you're using Scrum boards or a Kanban board with the backlog status and epics panel feature enabled. For regular Kanban boards, there is no way to pull up the epics panel.

I've actually been editing the Epic name by switching to the Old Issue View for that individual issue only, because it's faster than finding it in the backlog. It's actually not as big of a deal as I thought. It's two extra clicks - just click See the old view, change the name, and click the back button in your browser to go back to the new view.

Brian Smith_n7nvtn

You can now view the old view on an epic by simply appending the query parameter "?oldIssueView=true" to the URL.

Hopefully they'll fix this issue soon.

Is there any update on this?

When I view an Epic I expect a way to edit the Epic values

Same problem. It seems like we must be missing something -- this is basic functionality that anyone using epics would need. How could Atlassian not have noticed that this was broken?

Same issue here. Would appreciate any help.
