Hide a field only on Create Issue screen

Question

We imported our JIRA instance from Bugzilla, so a bunch of bugs have the External Issue ID field set. We want that field to be visible when viewing a bug.

But the External Issue ID field is also visible on the Create Issue screen. There, it's pointless clutter; by definition, any new bug that we file can't have an imported External ID.

Is there a way to hide the External Issue ID field on the Create Issue screen but leave it visible when viewing bugs?

If you have separate screens for create issue , view issue and edit issue then remove the External ID field from create issue screen.

Well, you just have to create another screen without the external issue ID field and associate that screen to the view issue operation in your screen scheme...
