How to control whitespace in new WYSIWYG editor?

Hi

Until recently we used the wiki markup editor and got exactly the results we wanted. If we noticed there was too much or too little whitespace on the page, we switched to the markup view to edit and everything was great.

Now, the wiki markup editor has gone - according to Atlassian this was at the request of their customers. So now, I have problems like this shown in the image below. Between the bullet 3 comment and the following noformat box there is no space; between the bullet 4 comment and the following noformat box there is some space. Yet both instances were created in the same way.

How do we fix this?

Hi Andrew,

There has been some progress as the beta of the source code editor has recently been released at https://plugins.atlassian.com/plugins/com.atlassian.confluence.plugins.editor.confluence-source-editor and Atlassian are trying to make the editing experience better.

I know the situation is frustrating, I know it's affecting productivity and the source editor is just a small step, but it's all Atlassian have got right now.

Andrew (my neighbour?) Thanks for the help but the WYSIWYG editor is ghastly and is taking years off my life. Inserting a entry half way through a numbered list is a terrible, terrible experience. I click the end of an existing entry, hit enter and............. get a blank line with no number at the start. The fact is I shouldn't HAVE to look at HTML to see if there's an erroneous

or whatever else. It should "just work", the same way that the old markup editor used to "just work". I reiterate a point I've made in various other places: I can't believe customers who didn't use a feature (the markup editor) ever said "take that feature away". Hey, I never click the "Reviews" tab in Jira. Will you take that away please? Atlassian needs to sort this out because productivity here in my office is way down because of this and we will have to jump ship for business reasons. Andrew.

Hi Andrew, Unfortunately the short answer is there's not a lot you can do at the moment. Atlassian are working on a source code editor which, as of a comment on 2 Feb 2012 at http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Specification+-+Confluence+Advanced+Editor , is due this quarter. Atlassian are welcoming requirements, comments and feedback on the new source editor at the above URL. In the meantime it's a case of double-checking that things were created in the same way, using Tools -> View Storage Format to see where Confluence may be inserting extra markup and going back to the editor if there's something obvious in the storage markup that you can remove (an extra

, etc.). Out of interest how were the examples you gave created? I tried reproducing on Confluence 4.1.4 and couldn't. What I was doing was: * Click numbered list icon * Type text for first list item * * Type text for second list item * * Type text for third list item * + * Insert -> Oher Macros -> Code * Enter text inside the code body * Place cursor underneath the code macro * * Type text for fourth list item * + * Insert -> Other Macros -> Code * Enter text insdide the code body * Save the page Hope that's of some help?
