Licenses for add-ons

Hello,

We currently have Confluence for 500 users. We are interested in various add-ons, for example, Questions for Confluence. As far as I understand, each person asking or answering a question will need to log in and therefore use up a licence. Is this correct? We currently have just over 100 of our 500 licences available. We might have more than 100 people who would want to ask or answer questions. This will prevent us having any more Confluence users.

Please can you clarify how this would work?

Confluence has a more simple licence system than JIRA 7, it's the old style.

A Confluence licence for 500 users means that you can have up to 500 "active" users (active meaning "they can log in and do stuff").

When you add add-ons, such as Confluence Questions, you need to have a licence that matches the Confluence licence, so that needs to be for 500 users too.

The add-on adds question functionality into the system, which your active users can then take advantage of on top of the basic Confluence stuff.  If you need to have more than 500 users using Confluence (with or without Questions), then you need to go to the next tier up in licences.
