Jira macro column wrapping when nested

I have been scouring the community site and my fear is the answer is no to this, in Confluence if I nest a Jira Work Items macro inside a Table Filter macro it breaks the column wrapping setting of the Jira macro which creates a super long horizontal scroll.

Is there a way to fix this so that I can have an option for people to filter results on the Jira macro without creating that crazy long horizontal scroll?

I confirmed its the Table Filter macro breaks this because the Jira macro by itself wraps appropriately when not nested.

Yes, there is a way to fix this, but it requires intervening with how the Table Filter macro handles table styling. You could try either of the below options:

Option 1: Inject custom CSS via Table Transformer macro (if you have access to the macro)
1. Edit the page —> add Table transformer macro around your Jira Work Items macro (or nest: Table Filter —> Table Transformer —> Jira Macro).
2. Edit the table transformer macro
3. In the macro settings, go to the Styles/ CSS tab and add:

table {

table-layout: fixed !important;

width: 100% !important;

}

th, td {

white-space: normal !important;

word-break: break-word !important;

overflow-wrap: break-word !important;

}

d. Optionally, you can target specific columns (e.g., set the Summary column to 300px–400px and the rest to auto) —> Save and publish.

2. Option 2: Configure column widths inside Table filter macro (if you haven't tried it already)

Click on the Table Filter macro and open its configuration panel (or use the cog icon on the published page if you have edit permissions for the filter controls).
Go to Settings/ Table Settings/ Options.
Look for Column widths (or Set column widths):
- Define pixel or percentage widths for your columns (specially the Summary or text-heavy fields, e.g., Summary: 350px).
Look for Table width and set it explicitly to 100% rather than leaving it blank/auto.
Check if Freeze columns is enabled—if it is, try disabling column freezing, as frozen columns often force white-space: nowrap.

I tried nesting the Table Filter macro into the Table Transformer macro and that was not working, it lets me put the Jira macro in but copy paste of my original Table Filter macro did not work and even trying to add new Table filter macro directly into the Table Transformer did not work.

Table Toolbox made it look like I could nest the Jira inside Table Filter and then that nesting into the Table Transformer, but once I hit publish the columns look great but I have no filter. So the CSS works but I lose the filter ability.

Second option the Table Filter macro does not show me any options to set columns. No columns are set to frozen. Table view does not have any column options either.

Ah, ok so per that documentation in Cloud since we do not have Jira Legacy macro we are just kind of stuck at the choose the ability to filter but have horizontal scroll OR no filter but not having a huge horizontal scroll.

It has a strange behavior, in Table Toolbox when I use Table Transformer then nest Table Filter then nest Jira Work Items inside Table Filter. I hit save and the page loads the filter for a couple of seconds but then it disappears. The documentation made it seem like this should work but it was not so I am unsure why.

I went ahead and submitted a support ticket since it's acting like it should work and documentation makes it sound like it should but its acting up on me.

Ah! Ok so nesting logic, goes Table Filter>Table Transformer>Jira. Nesting that order made it work!

Hi, I'm Alexey 'Ce' from CelesteCS, the vendor of the app below.

If the goal is a list of Jira work items that readers can filter on the page, there is a way that avoids nesting macros altogether: our Reporting for Confluence reads the issues itself and has a built-in "Filters for readers" option (new this week, Cloud and Data Center):

Reporting Table View with a Reporting Jira Data Provider. Query: your JQL; Fields: summary,issuetype,status,priority,parent,assignee
one Reporting Table Item per column, e.g. CurrentItem.fields.status.name
in the Table View: Filters for readers = "Search and column filters"

Readers get a search box, a drop-down filter for each column with repeating values, sorting by a click on a header and an "X of Y rows" counter. It renders as a normal Confluence table, so the columns wrap and there is no horizontal scroll; footer totals follow the filter.
