Creating custom worktypes in the free community edition, or in the standard edition?

Question

We are a small two main team project, they have recently started with Jira using the free community edition. However we find that we will need to create additional work types for our project, and I'm not able to confirm if I have that capability with the free edition: can you confirm if we stay with the free edition we are capable of creating additional Jira worktypes?

If we upgrade to the standard edition, what would be the cost to us on a monthly basis with a two main team? More importantly with the standard edition, would we have the capabilities of upgrading custom worktypes, that we need for our project?

You can create work item types on the Free plan, so you don't need a paid plan for that.

However, if you are considering a paid plan, I would first look at your actual requirements, since paying for a subscription for only two users may not be necessary.

Regarding pricing, Atlassian now uses “Collections”, which bundle several applications together. For example, if you need Jira, the Teamwork Collection could be an option, as it also includes Confluence, Loom, and Rovo. On the Standard plan, the price is $13 per user per month.

If you are referring to Jira Service Management instead, the pricing and collection are different.

As Tansu said, this is possible on a free plan. I'm running my private instance, which is not on a paid plan, and I can create new work types and add them to schemes 👈

You can even assign different schemes to specific spaces. On the other hand, the same cannot be said for permission schemes 🙁

One thing to note is that you cannot configure/create a custom hierarchy on the Free or Standard plan > see Configure the work type hierarchy. You'd need to switch to Premium if you'd like to customize that.
