Plugin Recommendation for Advanced Document Export, TGNG/Xray Integration, Workflow Post Functions

Hi Community,

We are looking for a Jira Cloud plugin that can support the following requirements:

* Export Jira issue data to multiple formats, including:

* DOCX
* PDF
* Excel
* Other commonly used document formats

* Integrate seamlessly with:

* Table Grid Next Generation (TGNG)
* Xray Test Management

The solution should be able to export data from these apps along with standard Jira issue fields.

* Support workflow automation capabilities, including:

* Workflow post functions
* Automatic document generation during workflow transitions
* Sending generated documents to attachments or external systems

* Support Jira Automation integration, such as:

* Triggering exports from Automation Rules
* Executing actions based on issue transitions, field updates, or scheduled events
* Passing issue data dynamically into export templates

We would appreciate recommendations from anyone who has implemented a similar solution in Jira Cloud.

Specifically, we would like to know:

* Which plugins support all of the above requirements?
* How well do they work with TGNG and Xray data?
* Are there any limitations related to workflow post functions or Jira Automation?

Any suggestions, best practices, or lessons learned would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @nboreddy, I think the piece still open is the Jira Automation side of your question specifically, since neither reply confirmed that part yet.

I'm one of the people building Better PDF Exporter and Better Excel Exporter at Midori. Between the two, we cover the PDF and Excel half of your format list plus the automation piece pretty deeply, though not DOCX (we focus on PDF, not Word, but that may change in the future):

* Distribution is the last step of the same rule: send by email, attach the file back onto the issue for an audit trail, or save to Dropbox, Drive or OneDrive, with conditional logic on top.

Xporter looks like the strongest option to evaluate here, especially since you need PDF, Word, and Excel exports along with Xray and other Jira app data.

Before committing, I’d recommend testing the specific TGNG and Xray fields you need, particularly when they are used inside custom templates. The workflow and Jira Automation requirements are also worth validating in a POC, as support for automated document generation can depend on the available triggers and actions in Jira Cloud.

If the integration needs custom handling between Jira and external systems, a custom solution may be worth considering as well. You could maaaybe explore this one: Xporter - Export issues from Jira to PDF, Word, Excel 
I've played with it once and it looked quite robust for multiple-version exports and I do believe it supports export/integration with Xray. 👀

Still, I'd recommend to POC it first to see how well it goes.

What you could potentially also explore is this: Build custom Forge apps in Rovo Studio - no code required! You could also try building your own solution, but I'm assuming it will take time, and there's no guarantee it will work. 🤔
