Hi,
Can you perform Garbage collection over my repo and can you also please help me to understand reason behind Huge Gc accumulating.. are there any practices we have to do?
Hi @Shilpa Parimi
I've gone ahead and executed a gc against the repository - it has reduced it down from 620MB > 195MB.
In the future - avoid committing binary files (ie anything that is not text/code format) as they cannot be diff'd and store the full size of the binary file with each commit, or store larger files using GIT LFS.
Cheers!

Hi @Shilpa Parimi ,
I've pinged the forum support team to take a look at this and potentially run garbage collection on the repository. 🧹
Normally, someone from the team would get back to you here within 1–2 business days. However, just a heads-up that the Atlassian Community forums are currently being migrated to a new platform, with the existing forums entering read-only mode around September 11. Because of that, there might be a bit of a delay in getting a response here.
Regarding the repository size itself, garbage collection can help clean up unreachable/dangling Git objects, but if there are still large files somewhere in the repository history, GC alone might not significantly reduce the size. The support team should be able to take a closer look and advise based on what they find.
Cheers, Tobi
Repository cleanup can be really helpful when unnecessary objects start taking up too much space. Hopefully the garbage collection helps improve the repository size and performance.
