issuelinktypes confusion

For long I try to clean-up our issuelinktype names. Having a look again on my task I suddenly see tranlsations appear, but can't figure out how/when to change....

while linking issue shows german in frontend (wanted behaviour):

jira admin for links shows english (with no way to alterate):

via /rest/api/3/issueLinkType:

Does anyone encountered the same, did I miss some ongoing changes to this?

I'm wondering because it seems a little strange, that:

for example: filtering by "issueLinkType IN (Blocks)" shows "is cloned by" too. in this case the ONLY link is clone, no blocks, is blocked etc.

something strange going on with issuelinktypes?

Hi Klemens,

Before you shelve it, I think your example is broader than the bug Arek linked, and that difference is the useful part. JRACLOUD-98637 describes one pair collapsing into itself: asking for "is blocked by" also returns "blocks", so its expected result is "work items which have matching inward or outward description". Yours is a different pair entirely, a clone link surfacing under Blocks, and nothing in that report covers that.

That matters because of what the ticket is short of rather than what it says: it sits at Gathering Impact with a single vote and Low priority, yet it was updated today, so it is a good deal less dormant than the vote count you were reading it by would suggest. A reproducible cross-pair example is exactly the evidence I'd expect to move something out of Gathering Impact, and you're holding one.

I'd also take the report at its word where it says "Currently there is no known workaround for this behavior", so postponing the cleanup isn't an unreasonable call while it stands.

Given you've been renaming link types anyway, are the inward and outward descriptions on those two pairs genuinely distinct strings in your instance now?

sadly this has low priority with no upvotes which is shocking in my opinion :D

Hello @Graul Klemens

From my experience Admin and REST expose the canonical English values.

I also found this JAC [JRACLOUD-98637] JQL search using issueLinkType parameter returns incorrect results - Create and track feature requests for Atlassian products.

try switching your personal Jira language to English and reopen the same work item. I'd expect the UI labels to change while the REST values remain unchanged.
